Who I Am
I’m Tony Downey, a Calgary based interactive media specialist with a passion for solving problems with clever coding and clean design. I hold a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the University of Calgary, and a Diploma in New Media Production and Design from SAIT Polytechnic.
I got myself into Flash, websites and the like because I like the challenge of merging delicious design with technical proficiency. I find that juggling the left-brain of beautiful design and the right-brain of efficient code keeps me fascinated for hours on end. In my spare time, I design video games where I try to give my players the same sense of freedom, presenting them with interesting logical problems with thousands of creative solutions.
What I Do
To me, the first purpose of design is to communicate. A clever design that inhibits clear communication is a bad design. To that end, I try to keep my work simple, uncluttered, and focused.
I also believe in the importance of mathematical principles in design. I frequently use colour theory, the golden ratio, grids, geometric shapes, and even algorithms to assist me with my work. Some of the designs I’m most proud of are the result computer programs I’ve scripted.
